New Jersey rapper Willie Maxwell II, known professionally as Fetty Wap, was hospitalized early Saturday evening with a “vision threatening” injury to his right eye. The “Trap Queen” rapper had been seen outside his mother’s Paterson, NJ residence earlier that day. Neighbors say the rapper, who had lost his left eye to glaucoma as a child, was playing with an official Red Ryder carbine action, 200-shot, range model air rifle with a compass in the stock and this thing that tells time. According to one witness report, “he looked like a kid on Christmas morning,” further noting “he was a terrible shot though, probably due to the lack of depth perception.”
Wap was transported to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center following the injury. When asked why he was playing with the toy, Wap responded, “ Man, I was just trying to do gangsta’ shit like the big homie Gucci, but a real gun seemed too dangerous.” Gucci Mane was later reached for comment, claiming he “told Fetty he’d shoot his eye out.”
When asked about his potential blindness, Fetty assured DeadAudio that it would not affect his future in the game. Reports have been confirmed that Fetty’s record label, TR3YWAY, has already signed former rapper Bow Wow for seeing-eye duties.
Fetty Wap will appear on the 9th season of Love & Hip Hop: New York later this year. It is unclear if the incident will be featured on the show. Daisy, producers of the popular air rifle, were not available for comment at the time of publication.
