WARREN BYROM AND THE FABLED CANELANDS

Praise for Warren Byrom’s album the Fabled Canelands…

“Kentucky boy whose idiosyncratic country-folk is earthy without necessarily feeling like Americana. Reminds me a bit of Silver Jews (albeit with more attention to melody and, like, playing the right notes) or certain moments in Neil Young’s career. Mostly acoustic, with nice arrangements of strings, pedal steel, keys, and trumpet (played by Warren himself). A rocker here, a mambo there. Like Jason Zavala’s new disc, the album credits are like a dream rolodex of Lexington jammers– Chris Sullivan, James Friley, Robbie Cosenza, etc. etc. Terrific lyrics that really evoke the South, often central Kentucky (love referring to Cinci as “Chinchbugnasti town”).”

-Trevor Tremaine, WRFL radio

“Like that most famous of roots collections, The Basement Tapes, The Fabled Canelands fits together like a tapestry. Song edges overlap and bleed, offer moments of fulfillment and emptiness, and trace out a past that continues to exist at our own margins. It’s new, it’s old, it’s ambitious, and it just so happens to be quite good.”

– North Of Center

“The Fabled Canelands is the debut album from Warren Byrom and The Fabled Canelands, and it is a spectacular debut at that. Warren Byrom has a fantastically expressive voice that radiates with a deep sense of hope and to some extent even a sense of innocence. Not the kind of hope and innocence that boarders on ignorance, but the kind that comes from having what one might call an “open soul”. You can’t help but connect with Warren and what he’s singing about.”
